FINANCIAL ANALYSIS AND STRATEGIC ANALYSIS SPECIALIST
Expertise: Bernie Bakalar is a CFA charter-holder with 12
years of investment industry experience, including
managing and improving systems and data related to
equities, derivatives and MBS.
Mr. Bakalar also has seven years experience in a
business and systems analyst role with proven project management
skills and demonstrated
results assessing client needs, documenting requirements,
presenting proposals, and effectively communicating
complex ideas. He is well-disciplined
and comfortable managing multiple tasks efficiently,
under pressure, while meeting stringent deadlines.

Economics
After finishing at Wharton, Mr. Bakalar joined
Fannie Mae as a Business Analyst. There he was
responsible
for two system-development initiatives - both
of these projects earned internal operational excellence
awards. He also monitored
updates to the data warehouse and prepared reports
of,
and provided interpretive advice
for, financial analysis of mortgage data for internal clients.
Mr.
Bakalar relocated to Seattle in 1996 where he was Principal
and Consultant for Cascade Systems. In this role, he recommended, sold,
and managed
development of a supply chain software solution linking regional
distribution facilities
of Jefferson Smurfit Container Corp. with Nordstrom Inc. purchasing
department. He also delivered an Excel-based purchasing system
linking
Willamette
Industries Corrugated Division with the HASBRO toy manufacturing
plant in Tijuana,
Mexico. The redesigned process reduced inventory 20% and required
lead time 30%.
Lastly, he drafted a 200-page functional review of supply chain
management systems
for a Seattle packaging broker, conducting extensive interviews
with the sales team, customers and suppliers. The resulting document
served
as a
roadmap for
strategic planning and business development.
In 2000, Mr. Bakalar
joined Peters Securities in Telluride, Colorado. In addition to
being a trader and analyst, he collaborated with Mr.
Busker in the development
of multi-pair cross-sector strategy and regression-based predictive
pricing model. This model became the basis for a firm wide proprietary
trading
tool. He also co-managed a small-cap long/short portfolio and outperformed
the
Dow Jones Small-Cap Index over the four-month period. Most recently he has been an Options Trader and Market Maker for FNB
Trading in Chicago. He managed a system generating continuous markets
across multiple strikes, based on a program-driven volatility-based
model written and maintained by the director.
He and his wife recently completed a total renovation of
their 1908 historic home.
